Ashton Art Group was founded in October 1966 and was based for many years at the Guide Hut behind St. Thomas' Church. The group currently meets weekly on Thursday nights between 8pm and 10pm, at Heath Road Day Centre, Ashton in Makerfield.

The Group has over 50 registered members. We have a range of abilities within our membership, from starters to professionals, and have a diverse range of ages. Our subsciption is annual and becomes due after the AGM in January of each year. From 2010 the current annual subsription is now £25. We do not charge weekly fees other than a small charge for life models or demonstrations, in order to cover expenses. We also take 10% commission from any exhibition sales at our annual summer exhibition in the town.

The Management committee meets every 2 - 3 months to discuss and plan the fourthcoming projects, events etc. The aim is to provide a varied programme for the members, encouraging suggestions and feedback. After the committee meets, a new bulletin is issued to each member so that everyone knows what is planned for the coming weeks.

The Group Holds a large annual exhibition each summer which is currently held in St. Thomas' Church Hall. This exhibition is very popular with the public as most of the work on display is also offered for sale. The annual exhibition is advertised locally, in the Wigan area press and also usually in the local "What's On" guide.

Visitors are always welcome to call in and see us any Thursday night during our club meeting. We do occasionally go outdoor sketching during the lighter months, if you want to further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thanks!
